Edmundo Mota, Jr., often known as Mickey, died in Yuma on March 26, 2023. He was 88. He was born in Ajo on June 7, 1934, to Edmundo & Amada Monreal Mota. After graduation from Ajo High School in 1953, he earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Arizona and later received his master’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University. He served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960 and was a SP4 when he was discharged. Mr. Mota’s teaching career spanned the years 1962 to 1997 when he retired from Gila Vista Junior High School in Yuma. He was a member of the Catholic faith. Mr. Mota belonged to American Legion Post #19 and to the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed bowling and was a UofA athletics fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edmundo Mota, Sr.; by his mother, Amada Monreal Mota; by his sister, Orcina Mota Torrez, and by his brother-in-law, Jeff Torrez. He is survived by his brother Horacio Mota & his wife Hortencia; by his sister Bobbie Mota Moore & her husband Don; by his nephews, John Moore and Wayne Torrez & his son Jacob; and by his nieces, Denise Moore Bryan, her husband Chris, & their daughters Lily & Macy and Nicole Torrez & her boyfriend Justin Peruzzi
