“The LORD bless you and keep you! The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace!”NM 6:22-27
Though our Church year began back on November 28th with the First Sunday of Advent, our calendar celebrates the launch of the New Year today, the first day of The Year of Our Lord 2021.
A common tradition most of us do is to make resolutions for the new year, ways in which we hope to improve ourselves and our lives. Along with the practical resolutions you may be thinking about, I sincerely hope you are thinking first and above all how you may become a better disciple of Jesus Christ. So, how fitting that the calendar year begins with the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God! She is the perfect example of discipleship, the greatest Christian before the word Christian even came to be. How is it that she is the greatest disciple, though? What did she do to earn that title? It is quite simple, brothers and sisters, she said yes to God’s will in her life. The word is called fiat and Mary did it perfectly.
As we launch into 2021, each of us should take a moment and ask God what is he is asking me to say yes to? If each of us offers our own fiat, the impact will be astounding as God builds his kingdom and his glory in our hearts and in our community.
God bless you and your families as we forge ahead into a new year.
