We are called, once again, to be steadfast and take courage.
Bishop Weisenberger has announced, with great disappointment, that public Mass should once again be suspended. From our bishop:
"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of my decision to suspend public liturgies and gatherings in our churches. The decision is effective as of Wednesday, July 1st. I know that this temporary suspension will disappoint and perhaps frustrate many of you just as it disappoints and frustrates me. I had greatly hoped that when we resumed public worship a few weeks ago that we would see a steady downward trend of Covid infections. But I must remind myself that we were told that the exit from this pandemic might involve some temporary set-backs along the way."
According to the bishop and those keeping a careful eye on this situation, we could expect this suspension to last about four weeks, though he points out that he is watching the situation every day, so it may be less time, or it may end up being more.
St. Christopher parish will continue to broadcast the Mass on Facebook on Sundays. The Spanish Mass will continue at 9:00 a.m. and in English at 11:00 a.m. Please know, the
great gift given us by Jesus, his Body and Blood in the Holy Eucharist,
is still available for you. Following the 11:00 a.m. Mass, at around 11:45 or noon, please come to the parish and you will be directed how to proceed to receive Holy Communion after
participating in Mass at home. For the safety of all of your brother and sister parishioners,
maintain social distancing at all times. The use of a face mask is required while on church property.
In the midst of this time, our Lord is providing for us a unique opportunity. By presenting ourselves as peaceful, and even joyful in these times, as disciples of our Lord Jesus, we will quite convincingly stand out in the world! When people ask you, "how can you be smiling and positive during all of this turmoil?" you can answer with confidence, "because I trust in God!" Why are you cast down, my soul, why groan within me? Hope in God; I will praise him still, my savior and my God" (PS 42:6).
Blessings and peace on you all, sons and daughters of God!
