Greetings from the Pastoral Associate

Greetings In The Name Of Our Lord.

My name is Fr. Callistus I was born in Nigeria to John and Margaret Iyorember on April 17th, 1976. I was named “Terhemen” which means “God First” in Tiv my native language. God First happens to be my Theology also.   I have four sisters: Philomena, Benedicta, Angela and Callista. I have three brothers-In-Law; Jerry, Lazarus, and Paul. I have one niece Sena-Ter and two nephews Mna-Ter and Verem who was actually born a couple of months ago.

I began considering the priesthood when my parents enrolled me into the famous Mt. St. Gabriel’s Secondary School Makurdi, Nigeria where some of my teachers were priests and nuns. It was also obligatory for every student to attend Mass every day. Through the exemplary lives of these priests and nuns many of whom were missionaries, I began to truly desire to enter seminary.

In 1997, I entered the St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Makurdi, Nigeria and graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy Degree. Before my studies of Theology, I graduated with a Masters Degree in International Relations and taught High School for many years. I also worked in the corporate world doing business. I completed my seminary formation at the University of St. Mary of the Lake (Mundelein Seminary) graduating with a Master of Divinity Degree on May 6th, 2017. I was ordained as a priest on June 3rd, 2017 at the St. Augustine Cathedral Tucson by His Excellency Bishop Gerald Kicanas. Since ordination, I have worked in St. Mark Parish Oro Valley.  I am currently enrolled in the University Of Villanova doing studies in Church Management.

My favorite spiritual activities are praying the Rosary and the Psalms. My most favorite passage of scripture is “There is one thing I ask of the Lord; this I seek: to dwell in the Lord’s house all the days of my life, to gaze on the Lord’s beauty, to visit his temple.” (Psalm 27:4) My Most favorite Novena is The Novena to Mary Undoer of Knot.

Since I said yes to God, I have experienced inexpressible joy, peace and fulfillment, I am truly thankful to God for calling me to this noble vocation. I am very thankful to Bishop Wiesenberger for appointing me to this temporal role as Sacramental Minister.  I look forward to sharing the Love of Christ with you the entire People of God at St. Christopher’s Parish.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Callistus Terhemen  Iyorember
